Looking to the future

Lord Northcliffe commissioned the Harmsworth Trophy to encourage development within the sport.  Nearly 60 years later Sir Max Aitken,  founder of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race, reiterated this vision when he said that the race would “help to improve the breed”.

The Trustees are keen to see this philosophy continue in the future and have introduced a new Challenge for electrically-powered vessels that will continue the tradition of encouraging design and technical innovation.

The Challenge will take the form of a time trial from Poole to Cowes and back.  The Trophy will be awarded to the fastest electrically powered boat to complete the course in a calendar year, commencing January 2025.
